EARLY LIFE

There are two qualities I’m forever grateful I got from my parents: (1) My Mom’s ability to talk to anyone and (2) My Dad’s incredible work ethic.

My Dad owned his own jewelry store, put in 18+ hours a day to provide for his family, and when I was 12, he owned his own Gold’s Gym—that’s where my passion for fitness began. My Mom had a strong work ethic too. Taking the train to work every morning at 6:30, then coming home to take care of us kids.

Somehow these two incredible people put up with me not doing well in school. It wasn’t for a lack of smarts, I just couldn’t bring myself to enjoy school. When I wasn’t competing in Basketball, Track, or becoming a 2X State Champion in Martial Arts, I had some side businesses going...

Every winter, I’d have houses hire me to shovel their snow. I also loved collecting baseball and basketball cards, determining how much they were worth, and selling them for profit. In High School, I’d charge my friends 10 bucks to give them haircuts.

But I was never really satisfied… it took years before finding a niche that gave me drive and a mission. I had 22 jobs before I was 24.  Looking back, it all makes sense… I was working towards what I do now as the Founder and CEO of Loud Rumor, and I wouldn’t change a thing about how I got here.

PERSONAL LIFE

Without my wife Marjon, there would be no Loud Rumor. When we were building this company, Marjon was cold-calling for 15 hours straight… while pregnant.

Marjon and I got married in 2010 and have a son and three daughters. I’m the most grateful man in the world. Marjon and I still do date nights, I do piano lessons with my 2 eldest kids, I’ve coached 13 seasons of basketball, 4 seasons of soccer, and 2 seasons of baseball.

The 6 of us and our 2 dogs Arya and Draper love hiking various Arizona mountains as a family. I have a goal of a total of 30 days of family vacation per year where I do nothing but give my undivided attention to my family.

I think too many entrepreneurs get the whole “work-life” balance thing wrong. It’s not an established hour or two per day that matters, it’s the 2-3 days in a row that your family appreciates and remembers most. Those are the times you have the greatest impact.

If you had a massive launch coming up in your business, you would dedicate as many days and hours as it took to make that launch a success. In my opinion, the sweet spot in life is dedicating that same time, drive, energy, and focus into extended family time.

For me, it’s about paying close attention to where I’m needed most and giving everything I’ve got to that area of my life.
